The Wellington Leader May 20, 1965

Mr. Johnny French, 64, died of a heart attack at his store about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

John Wesley French was born at Jacksonville July 28, 1900. He spent his childhood there, then came to Wellington when he was 16 years old.

In the early 1920s he established the French Tailor Shop, which he operated until 13 years ago. At that time he and Mrs. French sold the shop and bought Ward Brothers, a men's clothing store, which they later moved to its present location at the northwest corner of the square.

He was married to Miss Estelle Hill here on October 15, 1924.

Although he preferred for others to take the lead in civic movements, Mr. French had unlimited pride in Wellington and its progress. He gave his support to many civic enterprises through the years.

Surviving Mr. French are his wife and one son, J. W. French of China Lake, California.

Other survivors are four grandchildren and three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Earl Alexander of Wellington, Mrs. O. R. Hill and Mrs. P. A. Percifield of Rockport, and Joe Templeton of Jacksonville.
