WELLINGTON - Joe Baumgardner, 61, prominent Collingsworth County farmer died in a Wellington hospital Tuesday, about two hours after suffering a heart attack while repairing fences on his farm, two miles south of here.


Baumgardner was brought to a clinic here by his wife and, upon diagnosis of his illness, was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.


Funeral rites are pending at Kelso Funeral Home.


He was a member of the Methodist Church the Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, and the Kiwanis Club. He formerly was a member of the school board.


Survivors include the widow, six sons, J.H. Baumgardner of Lubbock, Forrest Baumgardner of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Haynes Baumgardner of Washington, D.C., Robert Baumgardner of Brownfield, Marion Baumgardner of Lafayette, Louisiana and David Baumgardner of Wellington; two sisters, Mrs. E.M. Gordon of Grapevine and Priscilla Baumgardner of Welington; one brother, Travis Baumgardner of Austin and two sisters, Mrs. Oleath Leggitt of Clarendon and Mrs. Grady Nolan of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
