C. E. BOWLES IS DEAD

Passed Away Early Monday Morning at the Home West of Carrollton

C. E. Bowles, a well known Carroll county farmer, passed away at the family home, five miles west of Carrollton, Monday morning, May ___, at 2:25 o'clock. He had been in ____ing health for the past se___ months but his condition did not become serious until a few days ago. Death resulted from heart trouble and complications.

Born near Quincy, Ill., August 19, 1858, he was the son of Wesley Holman and Nancy (Brown) Bowles. When he was twelve years of age, his family moved to Carroll county, settling on a farm 6 miles west of Carrollton, a short distance from the present home. Mr. Bowles became interested in agriculture at an early age and, following his schooling, engaged in farming, and occupation he followed with success the remainder of his life.

He was united in marriage with Luella C. Trotter, Sept. 11, 1881, to which union ten children were born, nine of whom survive. They are Ira L. Bowles, Carrollton, Mrs. Nora Hart, Carrollton, R. E. "Dad" Bowles, Liberty, Mrs. Bessie hart, Carrollton, Samuel Ralph Bowles, Carrollton, Mrs. Nannia Carter, Bogard, Mrs. Ollie Hook, Carrollton and Mrs. Alma Boschert, Hale. One son, Martin R. passed away in infancy.

Besides the children, he is survived by his widow, twenty-seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Eckman, Coyle, Okla. Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

C. E. Bowles was a member of the McGill Creek church, having joined in 1894. He was very active in the affairs of the church and shortly after becoming a member was made deacon and remained a deacon until his death.

Mr. Bowles made many friends during his long and useful life and will be remembered for his deeds of kindness, his honest dealings, his interest in the church and his family. Had he lived until Sept. 11 this year, he and his wife would have celebrated 59 years of happily married life. He will be greatly missed, not only by the members of his family, but also by his host of friends in that community.

Funeral services in his memory will be held from the Beaty church, Wednesday afternoon, May 8 at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. B. Baker. Burial will follow in the Beaty cemetery.
