Before his retirement he worked at Hanscom Air Force Base as a jet engine mechanic and later as a parachute rigger. He served as an army aviator with the 446th Bomber Group during World War II, where he served with distinction. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in action. He was taken as a prisoner of war after crash-landing his crippled bomber in occupied enemy territory and was released as the war ended. He was a member of the Tahattawan Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Littleton and the Disabled American Veterans of Westford.
