Laura LaVerna (Banks) Willis
Laura LaVerna Willis 72, nicknamed "Toni", a long time residence of Council Grove, KS. died,. Thursday morning, November 7, 2002 at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove.

She was born on a farm in Morris County, KS on July 5, 1930 to: Joseph A. and Laura B. Kellogg, Banks. The youngest of 11 Children.
She worked from the time she was 13 years old to help the family out. Her first job was working at her sister, Viola Malzer, grocery store in Stanley, KS. For many years as a waitress at the Old Hill Top Café and Saddle Rock Café, Hays House and the old Pauline Tavern. She also worked at Winter, South Dakota in a Egg factory plant for 3 years. 2 years at Ft. Riley doing laundry. and I.B.P. in Emporia, KS. And even cooked meals for the Army National Guards here in Council Grove, KS. She devoted her life , to being a housewife and mother. She loved to cook and have all her family around for the Holidays. She also loved to ride horses, plant gardens, having flowers planted around her house. Having everyone bring her rocks from around the world. She loved animals of all kinds, especialy her dogs. She enjoyed going camping with her family. And playing card games for hours on end with them. She also took in several nieces and nephews to raise when they had no place else to go. All the kids around called her
Mom.

Her marriage to Norman Willis was June 20 1955 at Cottonwood Fall, KS. He survives.

Other survivors are: a daughter and her husband, Reisa and Bob Blythe of Council Grove. A son and his wife, Roger and Pat Willis of Sterling, KS. 5 Grandchildren, Candie Roether and Wayne Edwards of Lenexa, KS. Brandie and Chris Lange of Elroy, Wis. Buddy and Rusty Willis of Sterling, KS. 2 Great Grand Children, Brian and Kyle Bayliss of Junction City, KS. One brother and his wife, Wayne and Caroline Banks of Herington, KS. 3 sisters, Perla McGrew of Texas, Verla and "Pick" Dillis Shearer of Council Grove, KS. Audrey and Paul Kniebel of Omaha Neb. One sister- in-Iaw Eva Mae Banks, Ward of Idaho. Many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Laura Banks. 3 sisters, Viola Malzer, Little Sister, and Enid Chalker. one half sister, Jessie. 3 brothers, Lloyd, Ernest, and Novie Banks. one half brother Clyde Banks. And one
Great Grandson, Cody Lange.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 11, 2002 at the Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills in Council Grove with interment to follow in the Four Mile Cemetery, south of Council Grove. Mrs. Willis will lie in
state at the Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills from noon until 9:00 PM Sunday where family and friends will meet from 7:00 until 9:00 PM that night. Memorial contributions may be made to the Council Grove Fire Department's Helicopter Pad Fund and may be sent in care of the chapel.
