Robert W. "Bob" Pollard, born Feb. 24, 1951 in Danville, Va., passed away April 29, 2007, at his residence. A memorial visitation was held to receive friends and family at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North.

His parents, Joe W. and Sarah A. Pollard, preceded him in death.

He was survived by his wife, Leah Davis Pollard; daughter, Brittany Nicole Pollard; brother, Jim Pollard (Pam) of Springville, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Claudine H. Perkins of Northport; father-in-law, Robert L. "Bob" Davis and his wife Pat of Moundville; brother-in¬law, William O. "Billy" Perkins (Amy) of Northport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up in Birmingham and attended Berry High School. He earned his BA degree in Political Science in 1972 from the University of Montevallo. He served as President of the SGA and pledged Theta Sigma Chi fraternity. After receiving his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, he opened a private law practice in Montevallo. In 1976 he joined U.S. Pipe & Foundry Company as a counselor, and in 1979 became the first in-house attorney for the mining division at Jim Walter Resources, Inc. He moved into the position of VP of Marketing and Transportation where he traveled the world to market and sell coal. He held a position as VP of Marketing and Sales in Denver, Colorado for three years and returned with his family to Tuscaloosa to PacifiCorp Syn Fuel, LLC with the same position. He entered private law practice in 2001 and in 2004, Leah opened Assured Title, LLC and he was the practicing attorney.

Bob served as a member of the Transportation Committee of the National Mining Association, the U. S. Department of Energy's National Defense Executive Reserve, and Continuation of Government Program (where he was granted "Secret" clearance by DOE). He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Coal Exporters Association of the United States. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association, the Tuscaloosa County Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He was admitted to practice before all state courts in Alabama, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta and the United States Supreme Court.

The family and friends of Robert W. Pollard expressed their sincere thanks to the physicians and nursing staff of DCH Cancer Treatment Center, Hospice of West Alabama and Caring Missions, who looked after Bob, with tenderness and compassion, during his illness. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.
