Wednesday, May 20, occurred the sad, sudden and tragic death of Mr. Simon Weakland, who resided about a mile north of Liberty. While returning home from Mr. Palmer's place and passing through a wire fence Mr. Weakland was struck by lightning and instantly killed. Mr. Weakland's tragic death occurred between eleven and twelve o'clock Wednesday forenoon, but his body was not found until 9 o'clock Thursday morning. The body was tenderly carried home by Friends and neighbors, and after the funeral service Friday was laid to rest in Chapel cemetery, The grief stricken wife and their little child have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. Mr. Weakland was an honest, upright Christian man, respected by all. He was converted under Rev. Quick's preaching at a meeting held at Bethel Chapel about two years ago.
