Union, SC - April 6, 1915 - Mr. Thomas Cooper, a well known citizen of the Cross Anchor Section, while standing in a wagon in which some of his negro laborers were hauling manure on Friday morning suddenly fell and died instantly, although he had apparently been in his usual state of health but a few moments preceding. Mr. Cooper was about 68 years old, and married Miss Mattie Hollis, of Union County, SC, forty years ago, and of this union quite a large family were born, five children still surviving him. During the war between the sections, Mr. Cooper served for some time, having enlisted at the age of 15 years. The funeral services was held at the New Hope Church, near Cross Anchor, SC, at 1 o'clock on Saturday, and was conducted by the Rev. W. P. Meadors.
