Lower Burrell
James E. Norman, 87, of Lower Burrell, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Born Aug. 15, 1922, in Glen Richey, Clearfield County, to the late James and Reba Jane Keller Norman, he was a Lower Burrell resident since 1952.
An Army veteran, Mr. Norman was a recipient of the Purple Heart during World War II. He parachuted into the midst of the fighting during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a train engineer at the Brackenridge Works of Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He also owned and operated Norman Heating and Refrigeration in Lower Burrell for 40 years.
A member of the Allegheny Valley Baptist Church of Natrona Heights, Mr. Norman was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Lower Burrell. He also was a union official for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed attending church and bible studies.
Survivors include his daughter, Ellen D. (James G.) Linsenbigler, of Ebensburg; granddaughter, Sue Ellen (Danny) Stiver, of Worthville; great-grandson, Zachariah Stiver; and sister, Avenelle Thompson, of Lower Burrell.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Asay, Reba June Fink and Anna Ruth Matthews.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington.
A funeral service followed by military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Allegheny Valley Baptist Church, 2855 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. The Rev. Ron Burkett will officiate. Anyone attending the service is asked to go directly to the church.
Private burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
