END COMES THIS MORNING AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Services for Prominent Carthage Woman, 71, Will Be Tuesday at Knell Home

Death came at 8:45 o'clock this morning to Mrs. J. F. Woodward, 71, a prominent Carthage resident who had been a patient since March 3 in McCune-Brooks hospital.
Long in failing health, Mrs. Woodward's condition had been critical several weeks.
Born August 26, 1876 in Montpelier, Ind., Bess C. Baldwin Woodward came here as a young girl with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Issac Baldwin, who settled on a farm, northeast of Carthage. She was graduated from the Carthage high school with the class of 1897 and the following May 12 was married to Mr. Woodward.
Mrs. Woodward for several years had been looking forward to the celebration of her 50th wedding anniversary. Illness prevented her from carrying out her original plans of inviting her friends to her home, but members of the First Methodist Church, with which she long had been affiliated, and other friends, sent flowers, a shower of cards and other remembrances, and a cake for the occasion was presented her by the hospital.
She was a charter member od Chapter AP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was a member of the S. S. club. She also was a member of the Women's Bible class and other organizations of the Methodist church.
Members of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the S.S. club and the Women's Bible class will attend in a body the funeral services to be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Knell service home. The Rev. R. H. Bodine, pastor of the Methodist church will be in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
