Ailing since last May, Mrs. Belle Murphy, 78, widow of George Murphy, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, October 19, 1941, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Davis, 11 S. Fifth St., South Danville. A lifelong resident of this community, Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 17,1862, in Oakwood. Her parents were the late Andrew J. and Catherine Hickman Sutton. She was married to George Murphy Aug. 16, 1882. Surviving in addition to the daughter in whose home she died are two other daughters, Mrs. Lillie Newton and Mrs. Vera Davis, and a son, George E. A son, Noel J., died in 1921. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the First Congregationalist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at home of the daughter. The Rev. will officiate. Interment in Parris Cemetery, Grape Creek. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 19 Oct. 1941, p. 11.
