Biographical sketch from Florida Baptist Historical Society:
"Robert Fleming (August 3, 1797-March 29, 1880) was born in Warren County, Georgia. His father, Samuel Fleming, was a native of Ireland. His mother was a Grier and a near relative of Robert Grier the author of Grier’s Almanac . Fleming started teaching in 1815, and taught most of his life. It was in 1820, under the preaching of Methodist James O. Andrew that he was converted. In June 1821, Fleming was baptized into the Union Church in Warren County, Georgia, by Winder Hillman. Fleming was licensed to preach in November 1827, and then was ordained in 1830, in Warrenton.
Fleming taught primarily in Warren, Meriweather, and Talbot counties in Georgia. He preached with complete preparation and often wrote out sermon manuscripts. He wrote and edited in his lifetime. Fleming is listed in the 1857 annuals as one of the active Baptist preachers in the Georgia/Florida Corridor. He was married three times. His first wife was Elizabeth Grenby, his second wife was Charlotte D. Sherwood, and his third wife was Mrs. R. A. Harris, widow of Dr. Bennet Harris."
