BELGRADE - Leigh F. Otis, 58, died early Tuesday morning at a Skowhegan hospital, following a short illness.
He was born in Fairfield Center, Sept. 18, 1928, son of Carroll and Eva (Fenlason) Otis.
He attended Farmington State Teachers College and served four years in the United State Marine Corps. For the past 24 years, he had been employed at the S.D. Warren Co., Hinckley. He was past president of the Messalonskee Fish and Game Club, past president and chairman of the Local 1828 of the International Association of Machinists Aero Space Workers, member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge, former member of the Victor Grange and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Waterville. He coached for many years in the Belgrade Youth Association baseball program.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Otis of Belgrade; three sons, John of Belgrade, Michael Skowhegan, Airman 1st Class Patrick S. Otis, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Kathleen Parker of West Newbury, Mass., and Sandra Doucette of Oakland; a sister, Mabel Otis of Melrose, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Augusta, with the Rev. Andrew Kane, Oakland officiating. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.
Friends who wish may make donations in his memory to the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, 34 Gilman St., Waterville, Maine or the Pine Tree Camp for Crippled Children, 84 Front St., Bath, Maine.
