Virginia Jo Morris Hartshorn, 89, died at 1:45 AM on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in a local care facility. Born in Texarkana, Texas to Thomas Brown and Willie Lee Gamble Morris, Sr., Mrs. Hartshorn graduated Salutatorian from Texas High School in Texarkana. She lived most of her adult life in Wichita Falls, where she worked for 28 years as bookkeeper for the CPA firm, Freeman, Shapard and Story. In 1998, she moved to Lake Charles to be with her daughter and family. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mrs. Hartshorn delighted in her family and friends, reading, playing Bridge, working puzzles and travelling the world. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Ann McNeill and husband Joe; one granddaughter, Mary Lin McNeill; and one sister, Elizabeth Linam and husband Richard, all of Lake Charles; two sisters-in-law, Evalyn Morris of Mission, Texas and Addie Beth Morris of Texarkana, Texas; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, John Justin Hartshorn, her parents, and two brothers, Thomas Brown Morris, Jr. and Robert Morris, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Dr. John Paul White will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Her graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 12, 2010 in Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas. Rev. Howard Chapman will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Hartshorn's P.E.O. sisters. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of The Gardens/Guardian House and Odyssey Hospice for the compassionate care given their mother.
