Jeffrey W. Rich, age 52, of W6661 Sumac Road, Plymouth, WI, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home early Sunday morning, March 7, 2010. He leaves behind a loving family who was not ready to let him go.

He was born on May 8, 1957 in Normal, IL, the son of William and Patricia (nee Coup) Rich.

He attended and graduated from Normal Community High School in 1975, where he was an accomplished athlete. He excelled at many sports, including swimming and baseball.

After high school, he joined his father as the third generation in the family plumbing business. As a teenager he developed lifelong hobbies, including a strong interest in antiques. Not the kind you find in a store, but the kind you hunt down—hence his interest in metal detecting and bottle digging.

He met his wife-to-be, Elizabeth Gamsky, at the age of 14 during a neighborhood softball game. Soon after they went on their first date—digging old bottles in a 19th-century dump. Thus began a life-long partnership of love, friendship and fun. On February 21, 1987, he married Elizabeth in Milwaukee, WI. The couple resided in Milwaukee after their marriage, moving to Plymouth in 1995. Jeff loved to grow and nurture things, and was able to realize his dream of moving his family to a 40-acre organic farm southwest of Plymouth.

He was the owner of Rich Plumbing and Heating and was a licensed master plumber. He was an artist and a craftsman who took great pride in his work.

He was a Cub Scout leader for Pack #3857 for five years and was active in the Boy Scouts for many years with his sons. He spent many proud hours watching his daughter compete at gymnastic meets. He was happiest when he was outdoors, and enjoyed fishing, organic farming and landscaping. Jeff was a generous and kind person who loved and supported his family through thick and thin.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Plymouth; 3 children, Andrew Rich of Plymouth, Jacob Rich of Plymouth, Josie Rich of Plymouth; his parents, William and Patricia Rich of Normal, IL; one sister, DiAnne Rich of Normal, IL; his father-in-law, Neal Gamsky and his mother-in-law, Irene Gamsky, both of Normal, IL; one sister-in-law, Trisha Gamsky of Greenville, NC; one niece, Angelica Gamsky of Greenville, NC. He is also survived by many other dear relatives and friends who will cherish the memories of Jeff's quirky sense of humor and enthusiastic renditions of old rock-and-roll songs. We'd love to hear him tell just one more story.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, James Christopher Rich, grandparents, Roland and Mabel Rich; Ralph and Georgia Coup and one brother-in-law, Al Schwanberg.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 13 at 1:00 P.M. at First Congregational Church in Plymouth. Father Thomas Mueller of St. Cyril & Methodius Church in Milwaukee will officiate. Burial will be in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name.

The Suchon Funeral Home is serving the family.
