Death has again visited our community and removed from our midst one who was held dear to the hearts of many. On account of her wide circle of acquaintance, her numerous relatives, her devotion to religious and charitable work, she will be sorely missed in the community of which she has been so long a part.

Sarah Duffield Crabs, was born in Edgington township, Rock Island county, Illinois, November 12,1848. She was united in marriage to Wm. M. VanMeter on December 25, 1870. To this union were born eight children, five of whom are still living, the two eldest having died in childhood and another son, Ed, having died in 1908. The names of the surviving children are Abe, Jean, Mabel, Will and Phil, all of Ada and vicinity. Besides her children there remains to mourn her loss, her aged mother five brothers and three sisters as follows: LA. Wood, Philip Crabs of Ada, W.D. Crabs of Oklahoma, Asa and Abraham Crabs of Ada, Mrs. Mary L. Miller of Belton, Mo., Mrs. Margret J. Davis of Ada and Mrs. Cassie E. Mote of Oklahoma.

They came to Kansas in 1873 and have lived here ever since. Her husband died in 1905.

Mrs. VanMeter was converted when a girl under the preaching of Elder John Titerington, was baptized by him and united with the Zion Baptist church in 1868. She has ever since lived a consistent Christian life and was noted for her zeal for the Master's cause. She has been a patient sufferer for several months and when it was known that the end was near death had no terrors for her and she fell asleep in Jesus on the morning of October 25,1909 at 7:45 o'clock.

The funeral was held this afternoon from the baptist church conducted by Rev. Geo. H. Clarke who paid a beautiful tribute to the life and character of the departed speaking of her beautiful Christian character, her devotion to duty as a mother, a friend and as a follower of the Master. He preached an eloquent sermon from Phil. 4:21, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Ada cemetery. The pallbearers were R.M. Hogarty, H.C. Mclaughlin, W.M. Price, Thos. Tibbits, Zack Meiller, J.S.Baccus.
