Deitrich Hinricks 1913-2001

Deitrich "Dick" George Hinrichs, 89, of Bemidji, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at the North Country Regional Hospital at Bemidji.
Deitrich "Dick" Hinrichs was born December 6, 1913 at Osakis, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Lena (Lubenou) Hinrichs. He moved with his folks to Dudley Township in the fall of 1921. Dick went to school in District 39. He loved working with wood as a child and built many of his own toys. As a young man he logged with his father. In 1932, he went out to North Dakota for haying, harvesting and threshing. He married Marie Wilson and they had eight children. They divorced and he later married Irene Johnson on August 3, 1972 at Shevlin. Dick sailed on the Great Lakes are boats for one and a half seasons. Then he went to work on various elevator construction projects for 27 years, retiring in 1976. He had a wood shop in Shevlin for 22 years, where he built many things for the home, about 250 clocks in sizes ranging from large to miniature. He enjoyed fishing on Walkerbrook Lake, accordion and fiddle music and relaying lifetime memories with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Irene Hinrichs, Bemidji; children, Dolores Johnson, Bemidji, Elaine Hanson, Great Falls, Montana, Carol Hendricks, Plymouth, Minnesota, June (Gary) Ward, Solway, Sandra (Dale) Maltrud, Becida, Daryl Hinrichs, Leslie (Sandy) Hinrichs, Wayne Hinrichs, all of Shevlin; step children, Diane (Bill) Martine, Bagley, Darlene (Dan) Phillips, Colfax, Wisconsin, Gerald (Pat) Hurd, Mes, Arizona, Ronnie (Ellen) Hurd, Colfax, Wisconsin, Debra Knutson, Eau Claire, Wisconsin; sisters, Lucinda Nelson, Bagley, Elenora Hanson, Shevlin; 27 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and step great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, and two sons in law.
Funeral services were Saturday, December 28, 2002 at the Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
