From "Archives of The Pioneers of Tazewell County, Virginia" by Netti Schreiner-Yantis, Page 211, appeared this abstract of Isaac's petition for a pension.
"Isaac Runion - New Jersey, Virginia Petition made 08 Dec 1819. Bill drawn 20 Dec 1819. Isaac served in the militia on several occasions during the Revolution and has never received but one dollar for his services. He first enlisted in New Jersey where he served two months. Next he served one month on the frontiers of Virginia under Captain Edwards. Then he served a tour to North Carolina in Colonel William Campbell's Regiment of Virginia Militia and lastly a tour in Captain Edwards Company in Colonel Walter Crockett's Regiment. Isaac's age now exceeds four score years and he has lost entire use of his eyesight. Addron Runion made oath that he knew Isaac served the tours mentioned. John Preston of Wythe County states that he first knew Isaac Runion in the year 1780. He then resided in Montgomery County on or near Pine Run. Mr. Preston saw Isaac in North Carolina a short time before the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, there were two men of that name, father and son, he thinks. About 14 or 15 years ago, Isaac Runion moved from Wythe to Tazewell County. John B. George deposes that he is well acquainted with
Isaac Runion, that he is 81 years old and he understands he has been blind for 9 years. He also has a son who is a cripple, the son is about 50 years old. He also has an aged wife.
