Eva Barnes Joyce 84, of 6808 Valley Drive in Raleigh, NC went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2010 after being in declining health for the past seven years.
Eva was affectionately known by many as "Nonny" and she is now with her late husband Sam at the feet of Jesus.
Mrs. Joyce was born in Franklin County, VA on June 23, 1925 a daughter of the late Vester Lee Barnes & Mary D Gibson. She had lived most of her life in Danville and the last seven years in Raleigh, NC. She had worked for the former Dan River Inc. in # 4 Gray Inspections for several years prior to becoming Administrative Assistant for Joyce Electric Company. Mrs. Joyce was a member of Brush Arbor Baptist Church in Danville and she attended Trinity Baptist Church while in Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Joyce dedicated her life to caring by giving of her time, talents & treasurers not only to her family but to her friends, neighbors and church family. On May 25, 1945 she married her late husband Sanford Terry "Sam" Joyce who died on February 10, 2003.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by one daughter Bernice J. Pegram & husband Durwood of Raleigh, NC, two sons William "Bill" Joyce & wife Martha of Danville, VA & Danny Joyce & wife Larri of Covington, LA, two sisters Irene Cox & Christine Clemons of Richmond, VA, one brother Chester Barnes of Memphis, TN, nine grandchildren Angela Pegram, Jonathan Pegram & Chris Joyce of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Parsons, Elizabeth Joyce & Jamie Joyce of Danville, VA, Andrew Joyce & Jarrod Arceneaux of Baton Rouge, & Staci Arceneaux of New Orleans, LA, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers Leonard, Harold, Woodson, Leslie, Charlie & J.B. & one sister Hester B. Johnson.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from Brush Arbor Baptist Church, 1643 Blair Loop Road, Danville, VA 24541, by the Reverend Billy Scearce and Reverend Steve Lamb. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel , 5858 Riverside Drive, Danville, VA 24541 Friday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and they will at other times be at the residence of her son Bill and Martha Joyce, 246 Turpin Street, Danville, VA 24541. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27612.
