Biography

STANBERRY, MO : James R. (Speed) Alsbury, 83, a lifelong resident of Stanberry, MO passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Albany, MO Hospital.
He was born May 23, 1926 in Stanberry, Missouri, the son of Thomas H. and Sylvia (Barber) Alsbury.
On May 22,1948, he married Fayetta Walker at the First Christian Church in Stanberry, MO.
James had worked as a conductor for the Wabash Railroad. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. He was a veteran of the Air Force having served during World War II. James was a member of the Raymond Sager American Legion Post #260, Stanberry; a longtime member of the Pony Expressman Barber Shop Chorus. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Stanberry, MO., where he had served as chior director.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Fayetta; 2 Daughters, Marsha (Lynn) Leopard, Chillicothe, MO and Michelle Alsbury, Kansas City, MO; 1 Son, Mark (Pati) Alsbury, Kansas City, MO; Grandchildren, Chris Alsbury, Matthew (Katie) Leopard, Nathan (Jennifer) Leopard, Hayley Leopard, and Ashley Alsbury; Great Grandchildren, Christina Alsbury and Jonas Leopard, .
He was preceded in death by by his parents; Brother, Tom Alsbury, Jr.; Sister, Jane Mallory; and Daughter-In-Law, Cathy Alsbury.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 5, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO. Burial with Military Rites in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday at Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO, where friends may call after 3:00 Sunday.
