Leroy Evans age 69 of Riceville passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his home. A native of Tazewell and longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late James Wade and Merlee Josephine Smith Evans. Leroy graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science of Nashville in September 1959 and was awarded a recognition plaque in 2007 for 50 years in funeral service from the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association. He was a funeral director and embalmer at Ziegler Funeral Home for over 23 years and was a member of Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church in Tazewell.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Lynn Brooks Evans of Riceville, Three daughters and two sons-in-law, Melissa and Johnny Underdown of Athens, Denise and David Gibson of Tazewell, Carla Sellers of Maryville, One step daughter and spouse, Stephanie and Dominic Nanni of Philadelphia, Four grandsons, Landon Underdown of Athens, Christopher Jenkins of Knoxville, Eli Brooks of New Tazewell, Matthew Gibson of New Tazewell, Two granddaughters, Kori Gibson of Cookeville, Nikki Adams and husband, Seth of NC., Two step grandchildren: Trevin Smith and Shayla Nanni, Two great grandchildren, One sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Lawrence Lephew of Morristown

The family received friends from 5-8 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Home and 11 am-1 pm Friday at Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church with graveside services following at Brewster Family Cemetery in Tazewell with the Rev. Garry King officiating.

Pallbearers were Tim Brown, Richard Russell, David Ballew, Bobby Farris, David Smith, and Tim McDonald.

Ziegler Funeral Home, Athens is in charge of the arrangements.
