She was born on July 15, 1924, in Luray and was a daughter of the late James Franklin Batman Sr. and Eva Earle Judd Batman.
Mrs. Spitler was a graduate of Luray High School and worked as a clerk for the Town of Luray. She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star for 54 years.
In 1946, she married Bernard Oswald Spitler, who died on March 13, 1981.
She is survived by a son, Gregory B. Spitler and wife Margaret of McGaheysville; a daughter, Susan Miller and husband Michael of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Christopher Miller of Ruther Glen, Lisa Baggett of Lynchburg, and Jason A. Spitler of Luray; and four great-grandchildren, Jadon Baggett and Nathan Baggett, both of Lynchburg, Elena Baggett of Lynchburg, and Pierce Miller of Ruther Glen.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia A. Bushey; three sisters, Eileen B. Griffin, Louise Virginia Batman and Mary B. Atkins; and two brothers, James Franklin Batman Jr. and Richard Earl Batman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, at the Luray United Methodist Church by the Rev. Erich Bennett. Burial will be in the Beahms Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.
