He was born on July 28, 1917, in Stanley and was a son of the late Thomas Benton Short and Grace Virginia Blosser Short.
Mr. Short was an Army veteran of World War II and managed Luray Home Laundry for years. He was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church, VFW Comer-Jones Post 621 and the Luray Ruritan Club.
His wife, the former Ruby Fern Grandstaff, died on April 28, 2000.
He is survived by two Godchildren, Leslie Ellis and David C. Foltz, both of Shenandoah. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, James and Rufus Short, and John Short Hawkins; and four sisters, Virginia Apperson, Pauline Fox, Florence Snow and Virgie Davis Lang.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Beahm's Chapel Cemetery by the Rev. Erich Bennett, with military honors by the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621.
