Death of Dr. J.E. Bates
Resident of District for Years, but Native of Virginia
Dr. John Edward Bates died at the George Washington University Hospital at an early hour this morning, at the age of eighty-four years. It has been arranged to hold the funeral from his late residence, the Braddock, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, interment to be in Congressional cemetery. Deceased was one of the oldest residents of the District of Columbia, having resided here about sixty-five years. He was a native of Fairfax county, Va., but came to Washington when he was a lad, and later in life conducted a pharmacy.
