Marcus Caelius (born circa 45 BC; died circa September AD 9) was the senior centurion (Primus Pilus) in the XVIII Roman Legion who was killed in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. He is known from his monument which was discovered in 1620 in Birten, Germany. Caelius is depicted on his monument wearing his military uniform. On either side of his image are his freedmen, Privatus and Thiaminus.

The tombstone of Marcus Caelius is without doubt the most famous monument of the battle in the Teutoburg forest and the only one explicitly linked to it. The text reads:

"To Marcus Caelius, son of Titus,of the Lemonian district, from Bologna, first centurion of the eighteenth legion. 53 years old. He fell in the Varian War. His bones may be interred here. Publius Caelius, son of Titus, of the Lemonian district, his brother, errected this monument.
