James B. Johnson is my great-grandfather. His birth name was James Birmingham Doane. He changed his last name to Johnson so his family couldn't find him when he left Canada to join the Union Army during the Civil War. "Jimmy B" eventually moved to Parker where he opened his stonecutting and monument business, "Johnson & Son Monument Works" on Main Street. Many of the monuments and stones you see at Rosehill came from his shop.

His birth date, which is missing on his memorial, is January 21, 1840. He was born in Sharon, Ontario, Canada. His daughter is Minnie Johnson Appleby, who is my grandmother.

Keep up your good work. I am so pleased to see my relatives headstones again...after more than 20 years.
