Eleanor M. Walker age 96 of St. Elmo, died Thursday March 4, 2010 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service also at the church. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery St. Elmo. Memorials may be made in her name to: First United Methodist Church 215 N. Walnut Street St. Elmo, Illinois 62458.
Eleanor was born on July 12, 1913 in East St. Louis, Ill. the daughter of Ralph and May (Lyons) McMurdo. On September 18, 1937, she married George W. Walker and he preceded her in death on October 29, 1961. She was a school teacher at St. Elmo Junior High School from 1962 to 1971. Her memberships include the First United Methodist Church, the Come-Join-Us Sunday School and the Century Culture Club of St. Elmo. She also played the organ for church and funeral services. She enjoyed traveling, camping, reading and cross-word puzzles.
She is survived by: sons: Dale (Wife: Alice) Walker of Wilmore, Ky., and Alan Walker of St. Simons Island, Ga. Daughters: Marcia (Husband: Edward) Mobley and Elaine Walker both of Freeburg, Illinois. Sister: Phyllis Sorensen of Holland, Mi. Eight Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren and niece: Lynn Ripley of New York City, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and niece: Gail Sorensen.
