Charles E. Coress (sic), age 71, died Feb 17, at his home in Colony, of a heart attack. He was born June 4, 1878 at Roseville, Illinois and came to Colony with his parents at age eight. In 1928 married Alice Haney, who survives. They had no children.

Cody's notes:
Not certain why his gravestone has the birth and death years that are shown in the photo.
The funeral home records state that he was born June 4, 1878 and died Feb 17, 1950, as does the obituary above.
Perhaps the stone was engraved years later and at that time they couldn't remember the exact birth and death dates so they just guessed? His mother (Elizabeth Caress) had died long before (in 1920). His wife, Allie, died in 1955. Both he and Allie have the same type of stone and engraving, so perhaps the stones were made (or his was replaced) at the time of her death or sometime after? Which means it could have been made/replaced at least 5 yrs after his death. He and Allie married late in life (he was 49, she was 40). Neither had been married before and they had no children together, so there probably wouldn't have been anyone around who knew or remembered his exact birthdate or deathdate by that time.

He is the nephew of Peter Caress (buried in Cottonwood Falls, KS) and cousin of Charles Peter Caress (Peter's son). He is listed as a surviving nephew, C.E. Caress of Colony, in his uncle Peter Caress's obituary. This Caress family is from Indiana and I can easily find many of them. However, I have not been able to locate the exact family of Peter and his brother (who would be Charles E.'s father), so I haven't discovered the brother's name.
