Robert D. Sarabia, 85, of Hendrix Road, Marble, NC, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his home following a period of declining health. He was a native of Cook County, IL, the son of the late Manuel and Elsie Anna Mueller Sarabia.
Bob was retired from the U.S. Air Force, serving in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines Liberation. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post 7807 in Hiawassee, GA. and attended Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
Bob liked to travel and especially enjoyed Mexican food. He also enjoyed attending Veterans Day ceremonies at local elementary schools. On these occasions, he was often invited to speak to the students in individual classrooms about his career as a soldier. He loved animals, especially dogs.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Marie Sarabia of Marble, NC. The family received friends from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, with the funeral services beginning at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Chester Jones officiated.
A military graveside service will be held in the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 7807, PO Box 927, Hiawassee, GA 30546 Send tributes to the family at http://www.mem.com
