Abigail Oatman, daughter of Daniel Oatman and Betsey Washburne was born in Cayugua, New York and died at Columbia, South Dakota.
She married Joseph Warren Hixson on 3-Nov. - 1859 at Whiteside County, Illinois. Together, they were the parents of Frank, Grace M. "Dollie", Alice "Allie" Abigail AbbeyDell "Bell" and possibly Alta Hixson.
Abigail taught herself to read and write. She was a stout pioneer woman and made quite a home for her husband and children.

Abigail Oatman Hixson died at her home in Columbia, S.D. on Friday, June 2, 1893 at 2 a.m.
Abigail Oatman was born in Cayugua, N.Y. July 13, 1836 where she resided with her parents until 1856 when she came with the family to Illinois and located at Jefferson Corners, Nov. 3, 1859. She married J.W. Hixson and by this Union, four children, one son and three daughters were Born. They resided for a number of years in Yorktown, then moved to Tampico, where they made their home until the spring of 1884, when they moved to
South Dakota where she died. Mrs. Hixson was a lady of very quiet and retiring disposition. One whom her friends honored and respected and her family loved most dearly.
There were present the following relatives, J.W. Hixson, Husband of the departed, Geo. Flanders and wife of St. Paul, John Adair and family of Burlington, Ia., Miss Bell Adair and L.P. Follett of Rockford, Geor. Hixson and Family of Clinton, Iowa , Henry Oatman and children of Prophetstown and Ed Brasher and Family of Rock Island.
