DAVID HUBBARD CALLAWAY
1927 - 2010

David Hubbard Callaway, age 83, passed from this life on March 4th, 2010. Dave was born the seventh of eight children on March 2nd, 1927, in Orange Beach, Alabama, to James Amel and Mildred H. Callaway.
Dave joined the United States Army during World War II and served a tour of duty in Japan as part of the occupational forces. While in the Army he earned his paratrooper wings. After being discharged from military service in 1946 Dave returned to Foley High School where he earned honors as an All Star running back on the football team. On October 15th, 1999, Dave and several of his team mates were inducted into the Foley High School Football Hall of Fame.
After graduation from Foley High School and attending the Polytechnic Institute in Auburn, Alabama, and Livingston College, Dave returned to Orange Beach, joining his family's charter fishing business. In 1951 Dave entered the Naval Aviation Apprentice School at NAS Pensacola in the Dynamic Components Division as part of the newly established Naval Aviation Rework Facility. Thirty-two years later Dave retired from Civil Service and went on to work 22 years with Avis Car Rental in Pensacola.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, James Callaway; his mother, Mildred Callaway; three brothers, James, Ray, and Billy Callaway; and three sisters, Lois Bessette, Katie 'Brownie' Lauder, and Eleanor Lauder.
Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marie Byers Feuchtinger Callaway; his brother, Macklin and his wife, Jackie; his sister-in-law, Ella Callaway Fleming; his daughters, Susan Callaway and Debra Morros and her husband, Mike; his son, Reed and his wife, Carol; and their mother, Ellen Rummel; Marie's sons, William and his wife, Mindy, Dennis, Joel and his wife, Zhanna, and Jack Feuchtinger; his grandchildren, Brian Callaway, Amanda Kerr and her husband, David, Karena Kramer, Katie Vallot and her husband, Josh, Katlin Kramer, Lesley Pugh, Warren Feuchtinger and his wife, Alisha, Michael Feuchtinger, Heather Feuchtinger, Melissa Feuchtinger, Cody Feuchtinger, Alex Dashkov, and Ivan Feuchtinger; and his two great-grandchildren, Kallei Broxson and Gabrielle Vallot; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens (1985 W. Nine Mile Road, Pensacola), where friends and family will gather for Visitation on Sunday March 7th between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on Monday March 8th at 10 a.m. for Funeral Services. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Ralph LaGuardia of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow the services on Monday afternoon at Miller Memorial Cemetery (15550 Fort Morgan Road) in Gulf Shores, Alabama. A reception for family and friends will follow at the First Baptist Church of Orange Beach, 4773 Bay Circle.
