Funeral services for Arthur James Graham, 85, will be at 11 a.n. Friday, Feb. 12, at the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Allen M. Peterson officiating. The Masonic service will be given. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carroll City Cemetery. The body is resting at the Huffman Funeral Home.
Mr. Graham died Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, at St. Anthony Hospital where he had been a patient for the past ten days, suffering from the flu and a stroke.
He was born in Carroll, June 25, 1874, a son of James and Jane Lloyd Graham. His father, who was born in Scotland, was a member of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors at the time the present courthouse was built. His mother was born in Wales. In 1902 he graduated from Denison Normal and Business College. His marriage to Mamiel Rawhouser took place in Carroll March 11, 1903. Before his retirement in 1945, Mr. Graham was in the livestock and grain business. At one time he was a member and president of the School Board of Carroll Piblic Schools. The Graham family lived in Carnarvon, Ames, Gilbert, Breda, and Wall Lake at various times, returning to Carroll in 1947. The family home is at 1124 North West Street.
Mr. Graham was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Carroll, and a former elder of the church. He was also a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 279; Signet Lodge No. 264 A.F.&A.M.; Royal Arch Masons of Iowa; Royal and Select-Masters of Iowa; and Azgad Commandery No. 63.
Surviving are three sons, Donald J. Graham, Cedar Rapids; Erwin W. Graham, Cleveland, OH; and Harold C. Graham, Storden, MN; one daughter, Edith M. Graham, Carroll; and five grandchildren, Joan Kaye and Wayne Brent Graham, Cleveland, Ohio; Ronald James, Edward Lloyd, and Linda Kaye Graham, Storden, Minnesota.
Preceding him in death were his wife, a son, Charles Arthur Graham, his parents, and all eight of his brothers and sisters, Jeannie, Adelaide, Robert, Euphemia, Anna, Mary, Albert and Ida.
