CARL M. FOLSOM (Age 74) LT COL, USAF (Ret.),
Passed away on June 8, 2007 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, Virginia after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Colonel Folsom received his navigator wings in 1955. As his career advanced, so did the aeronautical rating status, culminating in Master Navigator. During his twenty-five year military career he served in various Strategic Air Command and Headquarter USAF positions. That service included, also, a B-52 combat tour in Southeast Asia (1970-71). Carl retired from the Air Force in February 1978. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, and numerous commendations and service medals. After the Air Force retirement, he served with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for over twenty years.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Madore Folsom of Alexandria, VA; sons, Colonel Steven Folsom, USMC, of Oceanside, CA and Scott Folsom of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Merell Folsom of Colorado Springs, CO.
Friends will be received on Monday, August 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 10:45 a.m. at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Alzheimer Association, 11240 Waples Mill Road, Suite #402, Fairfax, VA 22030.
