Col. William A. Ellis, son-in-law of former supervisor C.H. Swanson, of Paxton, IL, was killed in France on Nov. 16, 1944 while fighting with the US Army 7th Army in the 100th Division.

Col. Ellis, a veteran of World War 1, saw active service in France as a Lieutenant and following the war spent a year with the American Army of Occupation in Germany. Upon his return to the States, Col. Ellis served at Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Bragg, NC, and at various military posts in the west and in the Hawaiian Islands. He was serving as a member of the faculty of the Virginia Military Institute known as "The West Point of the South" when WWII became a reality.

Following WWI, Col. Ellis was married to Miss Eve Swanson of Paxton, IL. To the union were born two daughters, Marilyn and Frances, who are living in White Plains, NY. Col Ellis' parents, residents of Fairmount, MN, preceded him in death.
