Craig, Louis Aleck: Of Missouri. Appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, from the State of Missouri; entered the Military Academy as a cadet on July 1st, 1869; graduated 33rd in his class from the Military Academy on June 17th, 1874, and was appointed as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry with the 9th United States Infantry Regiment. Serving on frontier duty at Ft. Laramie, Wyoming, from September 29th, 1874, to June 13th, 1875; at Ft. Hays, Kansas, from June 13th to August 3rd, 1875; transferred to the 6th Cavalry Regiment on May 25th, 1875; at Camp, McDowell, Arizona, from October 20th, 1875, to July 14th, 1876; at Ft. Whipple, Arizona, from July 16th to December 18th, 1876; at Camp Grant, Arizona, from December 31st, 1876, to February 17th, 1877; at Camp Huachuca, Arizona, from March 3rd, 1877, to November 26th, 1878; at Camp Lowell, Arizona, from November 27th, 1878, to August 26th, 1879; on a leave of absence to January 2nd, 1880; promoted to First Lieutenant of Cavalry with the 6th Cavalry regiment on November 30th, 1879; on frontier duty at Ft. Bowie, Arizona, to July 12th, 1881, during which time he was engaged in the Victoria Campaign, from September to October of 1880, at Camp Thomas, Arizona, and Scouting, to October 23rd, 1881; on recruiting service to October 1st, 1883; at Ft. Lowell, Arizona, and at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, to June 8th, 1884; serving as the Regimental Adjutant from October 12th, 1883, to October 1st, 1884; at Ft. Bayard, New Mexico, to September 25th, 1884; serving as the Acting Assistant Adjutant General at the headquarters of the Mounted Recruiting Service from October 1st, 1884, to June 30th, 1886; at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, to October 27th, 1886; at Ft. Bayard, New Mexico, to June 8th, 1888; serving as the Regimental Adjutant from November 1st, 1886, to July 20th, 1890; at Ft. Wingate, New Mexico, in 1890; serving as the Senior Assistant Instructor of Cavalry at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, from September of 1890, to July of 1894; promoted to Captain of Cavalry with the 6th Cavalry Regiment on February 24th, 1891; commanding Troop L (Sioux Indians) of the 6th Cavalry Regiment to October of 1894 at Fort Niobrara, Nebraska; transferred to and joined Troop H of the regiment at Fort Myer, Virginia, in November of 1894; serving on the boards of officers to report upon emergency rations, uniforms, and examination of enlisted men for promotion, in Washington and New York from 1895 to 1897; serving as the Provost-Marshal of the Regular and Volunteer armies at Camp George H. Thomas, Chickamauga Park, Georgia, from April to June of 1898. Appointed as a Major & Assistant Adjutant General of United States Volunteers on May 20th, 1898; accepted the appointment on June 4th, 1898; assigned to duty with the 5th Army Corps, in May of 1898; transferred to, and joined, the 1st Division, 1st Army Corps, on June 28th, 1898, and served with that organization until September 15th, 1898, during which time he was on duty at Chickamauga, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, and Porto Rico, being present at the bombardment and destruction of the blockhouse near Coamo, and the surrender of Spanish forces near that place on August 9th, 1898, in the engagement with artillery and infantry three days later on the San Juan military road, eight miles north of Coamo; serving as the Adjutant General of the 1st Division, 4th Army Corps, at Huntsville, Alabama, from October 20th to December 24th, 1898; honorably discharged from volunteer service on April 7th, 1899. Appointed as Colonel of the 32nd United States Volunteer Infantry Regiment on July 5th, 1899; accepted the appointment on July 12th, 1899; at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, engaged in organizing and equipping the regiment, to September of 1899; en route to the Philippine Islands, to October of 1899; commanding the regiment at Angeles to February of 1900; commanding the Sub-District of the Province of Bataan at Batanga, Philippine Islands, from February of 1900 to July 13th, 1900; on a sick leave of absence in Manila from July 14th to August 7th, 1900; commanding the regiment at Balanga, Philippine Islands, from August 8th to 20th, 1900; on a sick leave of absence in Japan from August 21st to October 20th, 1900; sick at Manila, Philippine Islands, to November 15th, 1900; commanding the regiment and the Province of Bataan, at Balanga, from November 19th, 1900, to March of 1901; en route to the United States, to April 19th, 1901; commanding the regiment at San Francisco, California, to May 8th, 1901; mustered out of service with the regiment on May 8th, 1901, at San Francisco, California. Promoted to Major of Cavalry with the 15th Cavalry Regiment on February 17th, 1901; joined the 15th Cavalry Regiment on May 9th, 1901, and served with the at San Francisco, California, to June of 1901; serving as the Acting Superintendent of the Yosemite National Park in California from June 17th to November 10th, 1901; on Recruiting Service in New York City, New York, from November 19th, 1901, to August 23rd, 1902; on a sick leave of absence from August 24th, 1902, to December 2nd, 1902; sick in quarters, at the Washington Barracks, District of Columbia, from December 3rd, 1902, to March 23rd, 1903; retired from active service on March 23rd, 1903, due to disability incurred in the line of duty.

Louis A. Craig died on March 22nd, 1904, in New York City, New York, at the age of 53; buried at the National Cemetery in Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia.
