James Everett Coberly was the son of Samuel Jones Coberly (1893-1967) and Mabel Wilson Coberly (1898-1990). In addition to James, the couple had two other sons, George Leonard Coberly (1919-2005) and Donald Edward Coberly (1924-1929). James was born July 18, 1921 in Humansville, Polk County, MO. He passed away April 1, 2005 at Capitol Care Nursing Home in Boise, Idaho.

James was married four times:
1.) Betty Russell Coberly. James and Betty were married 31 Jul 1940 in Tacoma, Washington. They had two children: Joyce Coberly Povey and Patricia Coberly Tuttle. James filed for divorce on May 6, 1944 in Ventura, CA.
2.) Imelda "Mel" Elizabeth Gagnon Coberly. James and Mel were married 7 Nov 1945 in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada. The couple had three children: Karen Coberly Marcus, Dr. Don Coberly, and Teresa Coberly Pisano. Mel and James divorced in Boise, Idaho before Sept. 1972.
3.) Josephine Ho Thi Mai Coberly, who was born in Vietnam, were married in Boise, Idaho on Sept. 16, 1972. They divorced 11 Apr 1984 in Ventura, California, USA. They had met in Vietnam while he was stationed there.
4.) Mary Martha Daly Coberly and James were married 24 Nov 1984 in Clark County, Nevada, USA.

James Coberly served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. State Department from 1938 - 1979.
He was highly Decorated, which included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Army Commendation Medal, plus many service medals.

James Everett Coberly, born July 18, 1921 at Humansville, Polk County, MO. passed away April 1, 2005 at Capitol Care Nursing Home in Boise.
He served with distinction in the U.S. Army from Dec. 2, 1938. when he enlisted after graduation from high school in Santa Paula, Calif., until his retirement of Feb. 28, 1970 after more than 31 years active Federal service. He held high positions, both staff and command, within the United States and overseas. His overseas service included Germany, Korea, Japan, Turkey and finally Vietnam. He held every rank from private to colonel.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, Col. Coberly served with the Foreign Service with the U..S. State Department. He was stationed in Vietnam where he directed portions of the U.S. Agency for International Development Mission from 1971 through 1974. He then moved to the U.S. Army Logistics Center where he was deputy director for logistics training and development of the U.S. Army until his second retirement from federal service for disability in 1979.
Col. Coberly earned his B.S. degree from the University of Maryland. He was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. He was an Army paratrooper, after attending jump school while a first Lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA. Among his many awards and decorations were the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf cluster, the joint Service Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Army Commendation Medal and many service medals.
He leaves his wife Mary, and five children, Joyce Povey, Patricia Tuttle, Karen Marcus, Dr. Don Coberly, and Teresa Pisano, and a brother, George L. Coberly of Thousand Oaks, Calif. James will be interred at ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY, Arlington, VA., after funeral services at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, sometime in May. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assistance League of Boise. Services are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral home, Boise.
