The family moved by covered wagon to Kansas in the fall of 1876. William operated different businesses in Iola, KS until Benjamin Harrison was elected president of the United States in 1888. William Canatsey went to Washington in 1889 to work in the Agricultural department of the Government under President Harrison. He was an acquaintance of the President, having served in Company D of the 70th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War under the command of Benjamin Harrison. William remained in Washington until his death.
