Mrs. Daisy E. Owen, died in St. Joseph's Hospital at 4:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 1971. She had been active in civic and church work throughout the 40 years that her home was in Wellington. Mrs. Owen was the former Daisy McDowell, daughter of the late T.W. and Carrie Clement McDowell and was born at Madge, Oklahoma April 1, 1906. She moved with her family to Dodson in 1911. She graduated from Hollis High School in 1926 and from Southwestern State College at Weatherford, Oklahoma. She taught school four years, first in Dodson and also at Swearingen. She was married to S.B. (Ben) Owen on June 12, 1930, at Wellington. He preceded her in death June 22, 1958. A member of First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Owen was a member of the chancel choir and taught a Sunday School for 21 years. She was also a member of the Garden Club and Belles Lettres Club. For a number of years, she was employed at Hatch Dry Goods, where she was widely known for both her graciousness and her capability.
