Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Alfred J. "Fritz" Rothstein, age 80, of Paynesville, who passed away March 3, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Glenn Krystosek will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Margaret's Parish Cemetery in Lake Henry.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 7 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Parish Prayers will be 6:30 p.m. followed by St. Louis Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid at 7 p.m. and Paynesville American Legion at 8 p.m. on Sunday at church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at church.
Alfred was born August 12, 1929 in Richmond, MN to Nick and Theresa (Braegelmann) Rothstein. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 in Frankfort, Germany. He married Elizabeth (Bertram) Hemmesch on April 26, 1974 in Lake Henry. He worked at Richmond Concrete and Rod for 10 years and the Cold Spring Brewery for 28 years prior to retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council 3820, St. Louis Catholic Aid Association and Paynesville American Legion Post 271.
Alfred enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and trapper. He was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he ushered for many years.
Alfred is survived by his stepchildren Alice (Herman) Schaefer of St. Martin, Janet (Donald) Schaefer of Cold Spring, Richard (Mary Ann) Hemmesch of Lake Henry and Donald Hemmesch of Albany, 24 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and brothers Gregor of Kimball, Marcellus of Richmond, Ralph (Evelyn) of Richmond and Nicholas (Margie) of Richmond.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Elizabeth (2008), brothers Norbert , Paul, Edmund, Leo and Richard Rothstein and sisters Aegidia Hemmesch, Leona Hemmesch, Lucille Rothstein and Agnes Rausch.
Memorials are preferred.
