Jerald B. “Jerry” Shumate, age 74, husband of Ann Ritchey Shumate, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Georgetown Community Hospital, in Georgetown, Kentucky. He was born January 6, 1935, in Georgetown, a son of the late Alonzo and Lola Mae Moore Shumate. He retired from the Scott County Road Department and was a devoted member of Word of Life Christian Center Church, in Lexington.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by: a son, Jerald Timothy (Karen Ann) Shumate, of Nicholasville; a daughter, Myra Sue Danielle, of Hardyville, South Carolina; six step-children, Sharon Rae Farmer, of Georgetown, Douglas Scott Farmer, of West Liberty, Kentucky, Julia Michelle Farmer, of Wellington, Kentucky, Michael Blanding Farmer, of Lexington, Mary Beth Goosey, of Danville, Kentucky, and Kimberly Ann Farmer, of Mount Sterling, Kentucky; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; and four nephews, Dr. Steve Hensley, Dr. Jeffery Hensley, Charles McFarland and David Brooks. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Walter Shumate; and four sisters, Eula Gardner, Margaret McFarland, Jean Hensley and Julia Brooks.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday atGeorgetown Cemetery, with Pastor Raymond Quintana officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Monday until time of services at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Brent Crowe, Charles McFarland, Dr. Steve Hensley, Dr. Jeffrey Hensley, Darrell Goosey and Michael Farmer.
