Billie D. Echternacht, 82, Leonard, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon.

He was born August 1, 1927, in Leonard, MO, the son of John and Lura Perry Echternacht.

He married Margie Gander on August 2, 1947. She died January 24, 1974. He married Joann Delaney Dailing on August 23, 1976 in Baring. She survives.

Other survivors include two children, Lyndel Echternacht and wife Wanda Sue, Leonard, and Brenda Buckkman and husband Pat, Shelbina; two step-children, Connie Lawson and husband David, Baring, and Richard Dailing and wife Cindy, Watertown, MN; eight grandchildren, Susan Wilt and husband Rob, Shellie Bull, David Echternacht, Margie Roland and husband Darin, DeNea Hombs and husband Charlton, Andrew Strong and wife Carrie, Molly Dailing and Michael and Jonathan Dailing; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lonnie Echternacht and wife Sue, Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margie; one brother, Monroe Echternacht, and two sisters, Norma McConnell and Arlene Ralls.

Mr. Echternacht was a member of the Leonard Christian Church and a graduate of Leonard High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Shelbina American Legion, served on the North Shelby School Board, and was proud to be a part of the reorganization of the North Shelby district. He was on the board of Shelby County Farmers Mutual for 35 years, Leonard Christian Church Board, and the Leonard Cemetery Board. He was a 13 year heart transplant recipient. He enjoyed tractor pulling and was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 3, at the Leonard Christian Church in Leonard with Jim Bilbro and Jon Ralls officiating. Burial was in the Leonard Cemetery with military services by the Shelbina American Legion #376.
