Farmer and educator, attended Emporia Normal School and taught at Claflin and Hoisington, Ks. schools. In 1902, moved to near Nash, Ok. and settled on a relinquished homestead claim. In 1920, moved to Wellington, Ks. and established a dairy. Made bottled milk deliveries to Wellington. Sold the dairy in 1941. Father of 8 children. Parents: David B Shire,b: 3-17-1830 Lancaster Co. Penn., d: June 14, 1914 Annapolis,Ill. Mother: Iva Ann Bowman, b: 12-25-1839 Licking Co. Ohio. d:4-8-1900 Annapolis. Married 3-4-1860 Crawford Co. Ill. Gandparents: Jacob and Catherine Boyer Shire. David and Mary Mouser Bowman. Mary Mouser Bowman's Grandfather, John Mouser (1733-1828), served in the Revolutionary War. When Eli was about 40, he started having stomach problems. A Dr.told him he would'nt live past 50. Eli started chewing tobacco and lived to be 97.
