Thomas D. Altenbach, 57, died at 9:25 a.m. March 3, 2010, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born June 17, 1952, in Lima to William F. and Julianne "Judy" Stukey Altenbach, who preceded him in death. On May 9, 1975, he married Jill A. Makley, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Altenbach was a materials manager with R.J. Corman Railroad. He had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was an avid woodworker and was very accomplished at it. He enjoyed golfing; especially with his wife and close friends. He loved spending time with his family most of all.

Survivors also include two daughters, Allison L. (Brandon) Schaadt, of Bluffton, and Kristine M. Altenbach, of Lima; six grandchildren, Libby, Nathan and Marcy Schaadt and Emily, Tyler and Abbigale Handshoe; two brothers, W. Patrick Altenbach and Mark Altenbach, both of Lima; two sisters, Cindy (Kevin) Mefferd, of Lima, and Cathy (Dennis) Swick, of Findlay; and his best friend, Jim (Kathy) Guy, of Lima.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Father Norbert Howe will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
