Aunt Lou Ellison Abbott with her parents she moved to Milam County Texas, in early childhood where she grew to womanhood and was married to John Abbott. To this union was born one daughter, Susie, who died at the age of 14.
From Milam county Aunt Lou moved to Albany where she lived for several years. Since 1891 she has made her home with her nephew, J. D. Overton who ranches on the Clear Fork in Throckmorton county. She had five brothers and three sisters. She has survived them all except one brother Jess Ellison who is 87 years old and resides in Phoenix, Arizona.
She died at the home of her nephew, J. D. Overton out at Fort Griffin.
Funeral services were held out at Fort Griffin, interment in the Albany Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Brother J. A, Owen officiated, Aunt Lou was one of our oldest pioneers, came here in the early 1870s. She had indeed lived to a ripe old age, being 96 at the time of her death. Yes, it can be said that she pioneered out here in the West, was the type of woman that has given this western country its character and stability. She was one of those lovable, patient women, one whom everybody loved, and her passing is mourned, not only by her near relatives, but all the native folks of the county. Quite a large crowd followed her last remains to the cemetery, and many flowers were in evidence, tokens of love and respect from relatives and friends.
