Helen A. PHELPS was the daughter of Luman Jacob PHELPS and Augusta LAWRENCE. At age 4, she was adopted by Aaron Orletus RIGGS and Achsa A. KELSEY. She kept in touch with her biological parents and her siblings throughout her life.

She married Henry B. DOUGLASS on 4 Apr 1907 after his first wife Gertrude J. SOUTHWORTH Douglass passed away in 1906.

Had two sons:
Donald Henry DOUGLASS
Lawrence R. DOUGLASS

MRS. HELEN DOUGLASS
Mrs. Helen DOUGLASS, 63, passed away at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday evening, June 29th in Chateaugay at the home of her son, Donald DOUGLAS, where she had been ill for many weeks with heart trouble

Born in Winthrop, April 11, 1875, and Priscilla PHELPS, When she was one of six children of Edwin was four years old, she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. A.O. RIGGS, of Winthrop and always lived in this vicinity. She was educated and graduated in music at Potsdam Normal under Prof. Hawthorne and was a talented musician on piano, violin and in voice. She was most generous with her gift. For many years she drove through the country in this section giving her lessons and her pupils are spread over a wide territory.

April 4, 1907, she married Henry B. DOUGLAS, of St. Regis Falls, a merchant there for many years. In 1921, the family moved to Winthrop, where he passed away January 18, 1934. Mrs. DOUGLASS remained in Winthrop for some time, but for the past year has been with her son and wife in Chateaugay.

She was a member of the Congressional church and gave freely of her time and talent to the society as long as her health permitted. She was also a loyal member of Laurentain Chapter, O.E.S. of Winthrop.

Besides her son, Donald (she leaves a step daughter, Mrs. Earl LaPOINT, of St. Regis Falls, four grandchildren, Jack DOUGLASS, in Chateaugay, Halycon DOUGLASS and Donald LaPOINT, of St. Regis Falls; two sisters, Mrs. O. COTY, of Norwood, Mrs. Fred RILEY, and a brother, Orville PHELPS of Plattsburgh and several nieces and nephews.

A prayer service was held from the home on Saturday with a service in the Methodist church at St. Regis Falls cemetery, beside her husband and little son. Laurentian chapter had charge of the cemetery service.
