A celebration of life will be held on Monday August 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at North Park Baptist Church in Abilene with Louis Johnson and Joe Grizzle officiating. Interment will follow in Phantom Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church prior to service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM.
Laverne was born on January 20, 1931.
She was the only child born to the late Lemey "Lem" Ruark and Bessie Dessie (Carter) Ruark in Jones County in what is now the Fort Phantom Hill Community.
She grew up at Fort Phantom Hill and attended school at Hawley.
She developed a strong work ethic in her childhood that followed her throughout life.
After high school, she attended North Texas State University in Denton.
She met George Mack Williams on a blind date and the two married on February 29, 1952.
They made Abilene home and raised their two daughters.
Laverne worked at Timex for 7 years before devoting herself to being a full time homemaker.
After her daughters were older, she began a career as a Deputy Clerk in the Taylor County Clerk's office, she retired in 1991.
Her pleasant nature earned her the nickname, "Precious" at work.
Her faith was of utmost importance to her. She was a longtime devoted and active member of North Park Baptist Church. She participated on numerous committees and ministries.
She loved spending time and creating memories with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband George.
She is survived by daughters, Stephanie Jones and husband Russell, Janice Reeder and husband Mark; five grandchildren, Justin (Hilary)Jones, Kristen(Chris)Whitehead, Jonathan (Shayla) Jones, Lindsey(Mike) Neal, and Landra (Jeff) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Micah, Cooper, Adeline, Ross, Tilley, Reed, Sam, Julian, Ryleigh, Emorie, Tessa, Kamryn, Maebry, Madelyn, and Landry; her sister-in-law, Wanda Howard; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude David and Susan Spicer her devoted caregivers for the past 4 years.
