Evelyn W. Williams, 93, widow of Richard W. Williams, died March 2, 2010 at Smith Phayer Hospice House. Born June 17, 1916, reared by parents Willis Roland and Minnie Davis Williams in Orangeburg County. She was a 1935 Orangeburg High School graduate, earned her R.N. degree in 1938 from Baptist Hospital in Columbia and began her occupational health nurse career with M. Lowenstein (Pacific Mills) in 1945 and retired from Lyman Printing and Finishing Company in 1981. An avid lover of nature and outdoor life, she traveled the North American continent and cruised the islands. As assistant senior Girl Scout leader, she hiked the Appalachian Trail, climbing Clingman's Dome on her fortieth birthday. She attended the 1955 Girl Scout Convention in San Francisco, California. Mrs. Williams was a member of Wellford Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Richard Williams, Jr. of Hickory, North Carolina and Robert Williams of Lyman; a sister, Oressie O'Brian of Columbia; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Marcus. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday at Wellford Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor John Moore and Pastor Mike Sever. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joey Marcus, Chase Marcus, Brad Williams, Dan Williams, Andy Williams, Richard Williams III, and Keith Campbell. Visitation will be held 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Wellford Baptist Church Social Hall. Memorials may be made Wellford Baptist Church Youth Fund, 235 Syphrit Road, Wellford, S.C. 29385.
