Ava June Pennington Bush, lifelong resident of Grapeland, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, October 14, 2014. She was 94 years of age. Ava was born September 2, 1920 in Grapeland, Texas to Daniel Boone and Ada Viola (Ward) Pennington. She was raised and received her education there, graduating high school in 1937. Ava continued her education , later receiving her Masters degree in education from Sam Houston State University.

Ava was married to Lewis Wright Bush in 1943. Ava has made her home in Owasso since September of 2013. Ava was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Grapeland and a lifetime member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She enjoyed astronomy, botany and the culinary arts. She coined the phrase “Paradise in the Pines. Ava enjoyed poetry and wrote many poems some of which were published. She wrote and contributed articles for different publications writing a most interesting published work on geophagy.

Ava was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Fannie Mae, Sam Henry, Mary Etta, Dan Ward, Jack Walter, Hugh Allen, and Wade Lewis.

Burial will follow in Pennington Cemetery, west of Grapeland. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Arrangements in Owasso were entrusted to the Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso, OK.
