Luray, VA., July 24 - A.S. Modesitt, the first treasurer of Page county, died this morning, aged 79. During the Civil War he was sheriff of the county and was army contractor. Afterwards he conducted a large mercantile business in Luray. Mr. Modesitt leaves a widow and the following children: I.H. Modesitt, W.A. Modesitt, D.M. Modesitt, Mrs. Bettie Stover, and Mrs. Ambrose Hite, all of this county. [Page 8, The Times,(Richmond, Va.) July 25, 1901]
