BROWN CITY, Mrs. Margaret Hamlin - Friends and relatives of Mrs. Margaret Hamlin, of Brown City, were grief-stricken to learn of her death November 17th, in her ninetieth year. Throughout the entire course of her earthly existence, her life was one long hymn of praise to her Creator; her simplicity of life, her nobility of character, and above all, her kindness of heart had attracted to her hosts of loyal and affectionate friends. Ever faithful and attentive in the practice of her holy religion, her life was a continual source of edification to those about her, a silent, but powerful, sermon of example, whose good effects will endure long after she is forgotten. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a kind and charitable neighbor.
Margaret Linck was born in Lewis County, New York, July 26, 1831, and was united in marriage to Martin Hamlin, in 1849. Their union was blessed with fourteen children, eight of whom, together with her husband had preceded her into eternity. Two sons and three daughters live to mourn her death, Wm. and George Hamlin, both of Brown City, Mrs. Patrick Byrne, of Detroit, Miss Rose Hamlin of Oxford, and Mrs. John Gitra of Imlay City. A brother, John Linck of Burnside, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Boyle of Clifford, also survive.
The funeral took place on Saturday morning from St. Mary's Church, Burnside. Despite the inclement weather, a large gathering of friends and relatives attended the services. An eloquent funeral sermon was delivered by the devoted pastor, Rev. Leo Gaffney. May she rest in peace.
